ABOUT OUR HOME
Downview opened in 1991 as a residential care home by Husband and Wife Terry and Sue. Both
Terry and Sue were passionate about good quality care and felt that the care sector needed a warm
family orientated approach. Our longest standing resident has been at Downview for 32 years and
the shortest staying person has been here 21 years. Terry’s daughter Lorraine grew up visiting
Downview and came to know the residents with fondness. Fast forward to 2018 and Terry and Sue
announced their retirement, and asked Lorraine to take over the directorship of Downview.
Lorraine left Surrey with her husband and moved to the west country to begin her new role. Lorraine
has ensured the family element and ethos installed by her family at Downview has continued and
that person-centered specialist care is at the forefront of everything we do. This is evident in the
compliments that Downview regularly receives where we are consistently rated as one of the most
caring and compassionate care homes in West Berkshire. Historically, Downview has always been
supportive of residents going on holiday and for the last 25 years, have been visiting Portugal yearly.

Lorraine, Director
Lorraine previously set up an award winning social enterprise company to support families with
disabled children.
Young care workers were provided with high quality bespoke training to act as buddies to support
teenagers with additional needs and access inclusive activities.
This skill set transferred well in developing Downview and we continue to evolve as a person centred service.
